There is a fine line between brave and dumb and this book is unfortunately about the latter.This is a book about an Israeli traveler in South America who gets separated in the Amazon. After a few days of being alone in the jungle, the author comes upon an old camp on the river where he can somewhat comfortably wait for help. He has shelter, food, fire.Yet he goes around in a giant circle in the jungle trying to rescue himself and almost dies. How he gets out is anti-climatic and even frustrating. He had instructions to the Israeli embassy and his friends to coming looking for him in 2 weeks and his guide told him to always stay by the river and wait for help in case they were separated. Basic survival knowledge- Dont try to get yourself out, wait for help.Yes he survived by strong will but he created his situation and story from a series of stupid choices and its just hard to admire that.As many mentioned, the beginning is slow and these guys sounds like lost teenagers looking for adventure and are clearly un-prepared. 1 star added for decent writing. I have to confess to seeking this out after having watched the movie " Jungle". The book is rich with detail, lively imagination, and human drama. The book explains many details left out of the movie starring Daniel Radcliffe . I found myself wondering over and over why we feel the need to go on these adventures that are destined to fail and will likely kill us or maim us for life if we survive. I have been close to the Amazon in my travels but am too fearful of its power to destroy to ever venture inside.
